The Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department will host the 8th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration and 10th annual Day of Service on Jan. 18.
Jan. 15 would have been the 92nd birthday for the world-renown civil rights leader from Atlanta.
Festivities will begin at 9:15 a.m. with a unity walk from the Roberts School Community and Education Center to the Acworth Community Center.
The walk will be followed by a celebration program with speaker Earnest Davis.
His topic will be “What are you doing for others?”
This year there will be no in-person community service project.
Instead people are being encouraged to spend the remainder of that day “as a day on, not a day off.”
Volunteer your time or resources to help improve your communities and share a photo or message with the hashtags #AcworthDayofService #MLKDayofService.
To attend the MLK Day Program, RSVP to MLKday@acworth.org.
For additional information, contact Daulton Hill at dhill@acworth.org.
Canceled that day will be the city’s work session by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, and city offices will be closed that day.
