Sunny conditions could add fuel to afternoon storms

May 6, 2022

The sun may be peeking through the clouds over northern Georgia, but those sunny conditions could elevate the risk posed by the severe weather expected Friday afternoon.

According to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan, energy from the extra sunlight could destabilize the atmosphere west of metro Atlanta, where the storms are expected to form.

The weather Friday morning has been calm, as predicted, while a line of storms approaches from the west. Scattered showers began to form in West Georgia before noon, and severe storms are expected to impact metro Atlanta between 12 and 4 p.m., Monahan said.
