Voting has ended in all but a few precincts in Georgia, capping a relatively drama-free day of in-person election day voting.
Polling places in at least four metro Atlanta counties — Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Cobb — will stay open late to make up for later opening times. Many of those locations faced difficulties setting up voting equipment, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said earlier today.
Meanwhile, some voters arrived at the polls earlier Tuesday to find their precincts had been moved to different locations. Others had to wait in line during the initial morning rush.
But overall, primary election day was marked by short lines and limited problems, according to the AJC’s Mark Niesse.
The primaries are likely to be cited as a success by Republican proponents of last year’s elections overhaul, which Democrats had warned could lead to voter suppression.
