WINNER: Best happy hour in metro Atlanta

60 minutes of drink and food specials lure residents to hang out after work

The voting was close for the 2020 Best of Atlanta poll on the best happy hour in metro Atlanta.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is committed to continuing our normal features, where appropriate, during the coronavirus outbreak. For full coverage of the outbreak in Atlanta, please check our Coronavirus News Section. We have decided to continue Best of Atlanta voting for the time being, despite social distancing. We encourage our readers to support local businesses after the authorities loosen the social distancing rules — along with supporting those businesses that offer delivery or pickup during the outbreak.

When our social lives return to normal, we’ll return to actual happy hours in bars and restaurants instead of virtual ones over Zoom.

When that happens, where will you meet up with your friends? Whether your choice is based on location or on prices, Best of Atlanta wants to know: Who has the best happy hour in metro Atlanta?

The voting was close for this poll.

In fifth place is Ippolito's in Suwanee. Owners George and Toni Ippolito opened the first Ippolito's in the late 1980s in Roswell and have since added locations in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs and Suwanee.

Fourth place goes to The Big Ketch in Roswell. The restaurant opened in October 2016 on Canton Street. Both of the restaurant's locations, Buckhead and Roswell, offer half-off a dozen oysters and $5 glasses of select wine from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Third place belongs to Zapata Tacos and Tequila Bar in Norcross. In addition to food and drink specials, Zapata features a Spanish guitarist 7-9 p.m. each Thursday.

Pull up to the bar at our second place winner, C. Ellet's Steakhouse, for a variety of happy hour specials, including boiled peanuts, bacon caramel popcorn and country ham plates. Or try the Nutty Ice Cream Slider: a peanut butter cookie with caramel pecan ice cream. Bar snacks are available for $2 and up 4-6 p.m. every day.

The 2020 winner of best happy hour in Atlanta is Kimball House. Even Forbes considers Kimball House the best happy hour — in the South. "It's the exceptional oyster happy hour that should be the hook to lure in seafood enthusiasts," Forbes wrote.
