New Birth Missionary Baptist Church will hold a community block party as part of the Lithonia’s megachurch’s weekend resurrection celebration.

The block party will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on the campus at 6400 Woodrow Rd.

This is the first big community-wide event since the death of Bishop Eddie L. Long. Long died in January after a battle with an aggressive form of cancer. He was 63.

Bishop Stephen Davis of New Birth Birmingham was named to succeed Long.

The block party is free and is in celebration of the resurrection of Christ and the church’s continuous support of the surrounding DeKalb County community, according to a release by the church.
