Faith Works-Fleming and her family were bumping into each other and tired of the other tight spaces in their rental. A six-bedroom, four-bath home that previously served as the model in Gwinnett County’s Montreaux In Towne neighborhood gave Faith, her husband, Corey Fleming, and their daughters, Harmony and Serenity, more room to spread out.

The family worked with Jarvis Duhe of Atlanta Intown Real Estate Services in searching for and buying their first place. Faith, a registered nurse, chatted about their home in Snellville.

Q: What made you decide it was time to buy your first home?

A: I just recently got married and we were looking to move to something bigger for our two girls. We were just tired of paying rent into something we didn't own.

Q: What were some of the things on your home-buying wish list?

A: We wanted a big kitchen. In the apartment, one person could be on one side of the kitchen and the other person could be on the other side and they would always be touching backsides. We wanted a nice, spacious, open kitchen and bathroom. I always wanted a separate shower and tub. My husband wanted an upstairs and a downstairs so there could be some sort of separation. We definitely wanted a yard and had to have sidewalks. So I don't think that our wish list was too bad.

Q: What are some of your favorite details in your new home?

A: It has the biggest kitchen I have ever seen in my entire life. We were told that this was a model home when the neighborhood was first built, and so we have black granite counter tops and they gave us all of the appliances. The living room is two steps down and we have a fireplace which is perfect. And on the other side of the fireplace is a sunroom and I kind of think of it as my tranquility room. The bathroom has two sinks and that was a must for my husband because he does not like to share the sinks with me. It's just everything I could have wanted in a home.

Q: Was there anything that surprised you about the location of the home?

A: I didn't know that this neighborhood was here. It is off of a main road, but it is still kind of secluded. I didn't realize how close it is to Highway 124, which is right down the street. I also discovered that there is a whole shopping center five minutes away from me. Just finding out all of the connecting places was pretty interesting.

Q: What is something you wish you would have known before you started the house hunt?

A: I guess saving up my down payment. I didn't take that into consideration. But, I just picked up multiple shifts at work and I came up with that in two weeks. I knew it was going to be a financial challenge, but I should have saved up a little bit more. There really weren't any surprises, it was incredibly smooth.
