In The Residences at W Atlanta -- Downtown, Atlanta-based artist Radcliffe Bailey is using a condo in an unusual way. He’s creating a meeting space for artists, curators and dealers, musicians and others in the local and international artistic community.
The condo is decorated with pieces by Bailey, in addition to photographs, sculptures, works on paper and other items chosen by curators and from his personal collection.
“The focus for me never was about how much artwork I can put in it. It’s about the artists themselves and being able to bring artists and curators together,” said Bailey, who has a home and studio in southwest Atlanta.

Location: The Residences at W Atlanta -- Downtown
Size: About 1,774 square feet, 2 bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths
Year built: 2009
Architectural style: Contemporary
Interior designer: Simcolifestyle, an Atlanta-based home design company
Interior design style: Simcolifestyle's collection in the W condo has a modern look inspired by Bali. Bailey adds that he does not view the space as being a show or gallery, but like some homeowners, he plans to change and rotate the pieces. "Let's say I went to someone's house and a collector had something that was interesting, maybe I borrow that," he said.
Favorite outdoor feature: Being in downtown Atlanta, which was a major focus for Bailey. The condo residents, hotel guests, and people visiting the W's restaurants and bars create a "built-in" setting for this nontraditional way for the arts community to connect in Atlanta. "It's not about the space and the artwork on the walls as much as it is being a place to meet," he said.
