Atlanta is serious about its pizza. More than 3,500 people voted in our Best of Atlanta poll to determine the best pizza in the metro area, with two places battling for the top spots.

There are dozens of great places in the metro area that make delicious pizza, but everyone has their favorite.

The AJC received dozens of emails nominating 25 restaurants during the week. Two of those pizza joints had enough write-ins to be put on the poll.

One of those two placed second overall.

In third place this year was Antico Pizza Napoletana. Last year's winner was ranked No. 29 in the country by the Daily Meal and is usually at the top of AJC's rankings. The AJC has sung Antico's praises for years. In 2010, we said visitors will get "one of the best pizzas you will ever eat." When we polled readers for best pizza in 2018, it won then, too.

In second place was write-in nominee Triple Jay's Pizza, which finished with 38.7% of the votes. Nearly two dozen people emailed to nominate Triple Jay's, which has a food truck in addition to its location on Piedmont Avenue.

The 2020 winner of best pizza in Atlanta is Varuni Napoli, with 47.4% of the votes. Varuni has restaurants in Midtown and at Krog Street Market, where, as chef Luca Varuni states on the website, they aren't reinventing pizza, "we are simply perfecting it." At the Midtown location you can even get specialty brunch pizzas, including one topped with a fried egg.
