Marvelous additions built on metro Atlanta homes

Homeowner Allie Ott chose to do her fireplace in shiplap after seeing similar styles on Pinterest and falling in love with the look. The living room was part of the 2017 addition, in which Allie and her husband Seth Ott worked with builder Jessica Murphy with Her Cave Atlanta and architect Ebru Ercan of e3 design.

"My number one request was a big tub to relax in at the end of the day, a home spa to retreat to at the end of the day," said homeowner Allie Ott. A stand-alone tub by Home Center Outlet was a perfect fit when the Otts decided to build a large master bath as part of their home addition in 2017.

The stairs connects the renovated kitchen to the second floor addition. The homeowners liked how the architectural elements were in keeping with the style of the century-old home.

Ashley Derrick and Alison Grounds' 2,500-square- foot home was smaller when it was built in 1915. After renovations and additions in 2010 and 2016, during which they tried to maintain the integrity and architecture, the home now has two large bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms, plus a pool house. Amanda and Aaron added two small additions to their cottage when they bought it in 2013. In one of their additions, they expanded the existing sunroom to create a light-filled third bedroom, which they use as a home office.

A pair of mid-century-style leather chairs, from West Elm and found in the living room addition, are among the homeowners' favorite pieces.

With the living room and screened porch addition, Taqqee Id-Deen's and Megan Isom's renovated 1935 Kirkwood bungalow provides the modern open floorplan for entertaining. The graphic rug brings an artistic element to the floors, too.

Jill and John Helmer's home, which turns 100 this year, was originally built as a small frame house. The addition of a second floor now gives it a Dutch colonial style, with features such as a gambrel roof. Text by Lori Johnston and Katie Tiller/Fast Copy News Service.

Steel doors open the cozy keeping room to the backyard. The keeping room and the 13-foot doors were part of a rear addition the couple built when they renovated their nearly 100-year-old bungalow in 2016.
