History: In 1987, several congregations in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody started the Community Assistance Center to help people in need. After beginning in a small office space, the organization now has three locations, with a fourth opening in early 2022.

Did you know: Today, more than 27 congregations, local businesses, grants, and donations support Community Assistance Center. Throughout the year, residents in Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, and now parts of Doraville have access to food, clothing, and emergency financial assistance for rent and utilities. CAC has distributed $2.8 million in rent assistance since the pandemic began.

Its motto: Bringing the community together to prevent homelessness and hunger and promote self-sufficiency.

How you can help: Volunteers are needed for the food pantry and thrift shop with tasks like taking donations, stocking shelves and assisting clients. Those who enjoy teaching can help clients learn English, computer software, and personal financial management skills. Financial donations are also needed.
