Chevel Shepherd, 16, a 4-foot-10 singer with a big voice, used her honky-tonk talents and yodeling ability to earn a surprising victory in the national singing competition over runner-up Chris Kroeze, Kirk Jay and Kennedy Holmes, People reported.

“I’m still hyperventilating a little, I feel very blessed,” Shepherd told reporters.

Shepherd was born and raised in Farmington, New Mexico, KOB reported.

“Couldn’t do it without all of y’all,” Chevel told the television station late Tuesday. “Y’all have just supported me since the beginning and it’s been a roller-coaster ride of a journey.”

It was the second straight victory for two-time coach Kelly Clarkson, who won last year with Brynn Cartelli, People reported. Kroeze and Jay were coached by Blake Shelton, while Holmes was mentored by Jennifer Hudson.
