Georgia schools and colleges closing Tuesday ahead of expected rough weather

The University of Georgia is now planning an early release with modified operations at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Most colleges and school districts across metro Atlanta are not having in person classes or have decided to close completely Tuesday in anticipation of inclement weather.

Gov. Brian Kemp has issued a state of emergency as some Georgia counties are projected to see 2 inches of snowfall between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

Some universities were planning to hold classes Tuesday. Mercer University said all classes after 2 p.m. Tuesday are canceled at its campuses in Macon, Atlanta, Douglas and Henry counties.

The University of Georgia is planning an early release with modified operations at 2 p.m. Tuesday. All in-person classes, campus events and activities will be canceled for the remainder of the day. UGA initially planned in-person classes throughout the day, but previously said that could change based on the forecast.
