There is nothing in the world like homemade granola. It is simultaneously sweet, a little salty, crunchy and chewy. It is full of fiber and believe me, nothing smells better when it’s in the oven baking.

Generally, I like to share recipes that are time efficient and you may be thinking, “Homemade granola isn’t time efficient. Can’t I just buy a box of it at my local grocery store?”

Well, you could, but homemade granola is fairly simple and quick to make and you’d be doing yourself a great disservice by not giving this recipe a try.

It’s delicious all by itself or with milk as a breakfast cereal. It’s also delicious as an ice cream topping. And, the next time I’m in an experimental mood, I’m going to try it as a crunchy topping for baked apples.

Here’s how to make it:

2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats

2 cups unsweetened cornflakes

1 cup steel-cut oats

1 cup chopped almonds or pecans

1 cup unsweetened coconut

1 cup dried cherries

1 tsp sea salt

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½ cup honey

½ cup maple syrup

¼ cup unsalted butter

1/4 cup orange marmalade

1 tsp real vanilla extract

Dump dry ingredients (except cherries) in a large bowl. Mix salt, cinnamon, honey, maple syrup, butter, marmalade and vanilla in sauce pan. Bring to a boil and stir constantly for 1 minute.

Pour over dry ingredients and mix well. Turn out on parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 10 min on 325. Stir. Bake another 15 minutes. Put pan on cooling rack and sprinkle with cherries. When cool*, break into pieces and store in air tight container.

*the granola gets more solid as it cools.
