These are the top TV shows and movies filmed in Georgia this year

Georgia has been dubbed the Hollywood of the South, and the number of notable movies and television shows filmed in the state this year proves why.

In cased you missed them, here are the top big- and small-screen productions — from Marvel comics to Disney magic — that have started or completed filming in the Peach State during 2016:

The start of summer 2016 called for crew members based in Atlanta to work on hit TV series "Atlanta." The FX comedy series has gained a loyal fan base as up-and-coming rapper Alfred "Paper Boi" Miles, played by actor Brian Tyree Henry, navigates street vs. real life while maintaining a rap star career.

FX's animated spy spoof, "Archer," renewed for three more seasons to reach its 10-season mark. The popular TV series did an all call for crew members during the summertime in Atlanta to help accomplish its eight-episode project per season.

Right after Marvel's "Spider-Man: Homecoming" wrapped up filming in Atlanta, "Avengers: Infinity War" revved up in the fall months. The colossal superhero vs. villain warfare is slated to debut in theaters during 2018.

This history-making Disney adaptation and science fantasy film started seeking out children for feature roles in Doraville during May. The movie project made influential director Ava DuVernay the first woman of color to direct a live-action film with a production budget more than $100 million.

Marvel's new feature film with leading actor Chadwick Boseman, who previous played James Brown in "Get On Up" and Jackie Robinson in "42," held casting calls around the Atlanta area throughout fall 2016. Adding to the franchises current projects like "Ant-Man" and "Captain America: Civil War," this new movie called for extras, including basketball players, Africans, actors and models. Actual filming begins January through May 2017.

Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" wrapped up downtown Atlanta filming and released the $181.8 million action-packed film in North American ticket sales during May of this year. Starring A-list actors Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie and Scarlett Johansson, the superhero project had been filming in Atlanta's Midtown and Buckhead locations with local help from extras since 2015.

The "Fast and Furious" franchise continues to speed across the globe as it heads into its eighth installment. This summer called for the casting of Hispanic talent to work on scenes in Atlanta.

Actor Liam Neeson has spent summer 2016 filming "Felt," the story of Mark Felt (known as "Deep Throat"). Felt helped journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Benstein uncover the Watergate scandal. The film also features Jason Bateman and Diane Lane.

Actor Chris Pratt brought the galactic adventure back with filming at Atlanta locations like Zoo Atlanta and Georgia Aquarium during the summer 2016 months. For the second installment of the space thriller, Marvel also gave fans a sneak peek of the project — one of many shot around the city.

This modern-day paranoid action film started filming during May. Based off the 1990 American hallucinations horror, the rebooted version features actors Michael Ealy, Nicole Beharie, Jesse Williams and Dwayne Boyd. The movie also called for Atlanta background actors as VA hospital visitors and MARTA passengers.

Shot in Atlanta earlier this year, "Killing Reagan" analyzes John Hinckley's 1981 assassination attempt against 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan. National Geographic Channel partnered with Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions to buy the screen rights to the Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard book. Atlanta extras and background artists also helped bring the 1960s to 1970s period piece to life.

The sci-fi romance is another Georgia-filmed project actor Chris Pratt showcased his space traveling chops in — this time alongside Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence. Shot in Atlanta throughout summer 2016, the outer space thriller follows the only two passengers awake to save a malfunctioning space ship. "Passengers" will release, Wednesday, Dec. 21, for holiday moviegoers.

Peter Parker is back yet again to grapple with his newfound web-slinging powers, and most of the filming occurred in downtown Atlanta. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei, this action-packed film shot scenes adjacent to where parts of "Captain America:  Civil War" shot in Atlanta as well. Spidey is set to release summer 2017.

The sci-fi Netflix-original drama filmed in Georgia has garnered a massive following for its mysterious, supernatural storyline to finding a missing boy. Starring award-winning actress Winona Ryder, the hit show's casting directors sent out a search two months ago in the Peach State for actors with 1980s-styled hair to complement its 1983 small-town setting.

Dysfunction and double lives of a wealthy and successful family resumed filming in Atlanta at writer/director Tyler Perry's Tyler Perry Studios. The project called for background work and other talent to become part of the popular TV soap opera.

This popular zombie apocalypse series concluded its six season. According to Universal Studios, the killing-spree hit show filmed in Atlanta is viewed by more adults between ages 18 and 49 than any other one. Becoming the most popular cable TV program in history, "The Walking Dead" now has its own amusement park in Universal Studios Hollywood in California.

When a woman is caught in the middle of a political scandal, she finds solitude by returning to a peaceful place: home. Director Tyler Perry shot the TLC TV drama at his new studio in Atlanta, which brought in about 4.2 million viewers. Right after, TLC gave the show a second season.
