The power behind your favorite channels

Who owns your favorite TV network? Whomever it is could change soon.

21st Century Fox’s attempts to acquire Time Warner and its Atlanta-based Turner Broadcasting TV networks could spark other consolidations among owners of cable TV networks. Here’s a sampling of who owns which network:

CBS: CBS (broadcast network), CW (broadcast network, with Time Warner), Showtime, Smithsonian Channel (joint venture).

Time Warner: HBO, Cinemax and (through Turner Broadcasting) TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, CNN, HLN, CW (broadcast network; joint venture), truTV, Adult Swim, Boomerang.

21st Century Fox: FX, Fox News, Fox (broadcast network), Fox Sports, Fox Sports Networks, National Geographic Channel (joint venture), BigTen Network (joint venture), YES network (partial stake).

Viacom: Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, Spike, BET, CMT, VH1, TV Land.

Discovery Communications: Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, Oprah Winfrey Network (joint venture), Science.

Scripps Networks Interactive: HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel, Cooking Channel, DIY.

AMC Networks: AMC, WE tv, IFC, Sundance Channel.

Comcast (including NBCUniversal): NBC (broadcast), Telemundo (broadcast), USA Network, Bravo, Syfy, MSNBC, E!, Golf Channel, CNBC, Oxygen, NBC Sports Network.

Disney: ABC (broadcast network), ABC Family, EPSN, Disney Channel, plus a stake in A&E.

Crown Media Holdings: Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movie Channel.

Univision Communications: Univision (broadcast network).
