Insurance giant State Farm is consolidating offices from around the region, which could boost the headcount at its southern regional headquarters in Johns Creek by as much as 400.
The consolidation started last year and should be finished in 2012, said Justin Tomczak, a State Farm spokesman. "All of the companies in the industry are facing similar competitive pressures."
The news, as first reported by the Atlanta Business Chronicle, doesn’t mean a slew of new jobs here, however. Tomczak said most of the additional people are being transferred within the company.
State Farm has had a campus in Johns Creek Technology Park since the early 1990s. It added a second building about 10 years ago, and with the new employees, should employ about 2,000 mostly white collar workers there, Tomczak said.
Tomczak was not aware of any economic incentives State Farm received for adding more jobs. The company won’t need to add to its office space for the new workers, he said, because the office layout was reorganized to fit the newcomers.
