A development firm has submitted plans for a massive industrial campus near the Newnan-Coweta County Airport, about 40 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta.
Pope & Land Enterprises, a long-time player in metro area mixed-use development, has proposed a project called Bridgeport Industrial, a more than 1,000-acre complex for manufacturing, research and design, warehousing and offices.
The complex, along I-85 near the city of Moreland, is among the largest potential industrial sites available in the state. It has direct ties to rail, interstate and sits about 30 miles southwest of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The Pope & Land concept was outlined in a Development of Regional Impact filing submitted by Coweta County officials, who had little information about the proposal. The development timeline is through 2018. A project of this size would undoubtedly require approval of regional planners.
A message left for Tom Barranco, a Pope & Land executive listed with the proposed development, was not immediately returned.
It is not clear if Pope & Land has tenants or specific industries in mind for the site, which it lists in an aerial map on the company website at more than 1,400 acres.
The project description calls for more than 7 million square feet in heavy and light industrial space, nearly 300,000 square feet in research and design space and more than 700,000 square feet of warehouses.
Pope & Land has been involved in many prominent Atlanta projects, including the 3630 Peachtree office and condo tower in Buckhead. The firm also is one of the partners in the mixed-use development planned next to the new Braves stadium in Cobb County.
