Oxford Industries, the Atlanta-based apparel company, has named Mark Maidment as chief executive officer of its Ben Sherman Group.
Maidment has been creative director of the men’s label since 2005 and joined the company in 2002. Ben Sherman is a London-based designer, marketer and distributor of men’s branded sportswear. The brand is carried by major department stores, including Macy’s and Nordstrom.
In releasing the company’s fourth-quarter earnings results earlier this month, Oxford CEO Thomas Chubb III said Ben Sherman’s operating results “were extremely disappointing” and he cited “missteps in the execution of our strategy coupled with a difficult consumer market in the UK and Europe.”
Net sales fell 10 percent to $81.9 million in fiscal 2012 from $91.4 million the previous period. The loss from operations rose to $10.9 million in fiscal 2012 from $2.5 million in the earlier period.
Former CEO Panayiotis Philippou headed Ben Sherman until November 2012.
“While much work remains to be done, with Mark’s appointment as CEO we have taken a significant step on the path towards commercial success at Ben Sherman,” Chubb said in announcing Maidment as head of the label.
Oxford also named Ben Sherman finance director Lindsay Dunsmuir as chief operating officer.
The company’s other labels include Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer, Oxford Golf, Arnold Brant and Billy London.
