Each year, nurses across the country are celebrated from May 6 to May 12, which has been designated as National Nurses Week. Nurses, who are consistently named the nation’s most-trusted professionals in a yearly Gallup Honesty and Ethics of professions survey, are often described as the unsung heroes of health care.

For the sixth consecutive year, The Atlanta Journal- Constitution and ajcjobs will honor 10 of Georgia's top nurses with the 2011 Nursing Excellence Awards. Our independent panel of judges told us that picking 10 winners from an impressive group of 324 nominations was tough.

The winners will be honored at an awards luncheon on Wednesday May 4, 2011 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Channel 2 Action News evening anchor Justin Farmer will emcee the event. To buy tickets to the banquet ($40 for individuals, $350 for a table of 10), go to ajcjobs.comcelebratingnurses.

Profiles of the 10 winners will be featured in a special Celebrating Nurses section inserted in The Atlanta Journal Constitution on Sunday, May 1. Early editions of the Sunday paper will be available in metro Atlanta retail outlets on Saturday, April 30. After May 1, limited copies of the May 1 newspaper may be available for purchase from the AJC. Call 404-522-4141 to check availability. The profiles will also be posted on the AJCjobs.com Celebrating Nurses web page at ajcjobs.com/celebratingnurses.
