NCR Corp. bought a DVD kiosk company based in California on Thursday, boosting the Duluth-based company’s push into the DVD rental business.
Sales terms for DVDPlay were not disclosed.
NCR, which moved its corporate headquarters to Gwinnett County earlier this year, expects to operate 3,800 DVD kiosks in the U.S. and Canada by year’s end. RedBox is the nation’s top DVD distributor via kiosks.
”This further investment will help us bring our kiosks to even more consumers in even more locations around the United States, especially in major markets in California and other parts of the Western U.S.,” Alex Camara, vice president of NCR Entertainment, said in a statement.
DVDPlay places many of its kiosks in Safeway stores. NCR, via its Blockbuster Express brand, operates kiosks in Publix grocery stores in Georgia.
The Fortune 500 company that makes ATMs, checkout scanners and other self-service equipment, inaugurated its training and customer care center in Peachtree City last month. With a factory in Columbus, NCR could one day employ more than 4,000 Georgians.
