The state and local recruitment package to woo homebuilder PulteGroup to Atlanta could total more than $7.3 million in grants and other assistance, according to an analysis by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution of data released Wednesday by two economic development agencies.
Last week, Pulte said it plans to move its headquarters from metro Detroit next year and bring with it as many as 350 jobs. The company committed to 310 jobs and an investment related to the move of $10 million, the state said last week.
The state Department of Economic Development has approved a grant of $1.5 million to help entice Pulte to move from Detroit. Invest Atlanta, the recruitment arm for the city, has also offered at least $1.5 million in assistance from its deal closing fund. That grant is subject to approvals by the Invest Atlanta board and Atlanta City Council.
Pulte also is potentially eligible for more than $3.3 million in tax credits for creating high-paying jobs and for more than $1 million in Quick Start training for its workforce.
The value of state and local assistance could come to about $23,700 per job if the 310 jobs promised are realized. By comparison, the AJC reported last month the state incentive package to carpet maker Engineered Floors could total $105.6 million over several years or $44,000 per job for its promise of two factories and 2,400 new jobs.
State and company officials have not released compensation figures for the Pulte jobs.
