Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport was No. 6 among U.S. airports for international passenger traffic in 2010, according to a federal report.

About 4.5 million passengers boarded international flights in Atlanta last year, up 4.2 percent from 2009. New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport was No. 1 for international traffic, with about 11.3 million passengers boarding international flights. The figures include passengers on U.S. and foreign airlines. Hartsfield-Jackson is building a new international terminal, to be completed in spring 2012.

The Atlanta airport remains the world's busiest airport based on total passenger traffic.

Federal figures also show that Delta Air Lines carried the most passengers among U.S. airlines in 2010, for the first time since 2001. But the industry landscape is changing, with United and Continental merging to form the world's largest airline, and Southwest planning to acquire AirTran Airways.
