A California-based online company has started hiring for 300 positions at a distribution center in Duluth.

ThredUP, which had a ribbon-cutting attended by a number of government officials on Tuesday, picked the Gwinnett location as its fourth such center, this one aimed at providing a gateway to the southeast, said John Voris, the company's chief operating officer.

The company sells women’s and children’s clothing. It also has a business in reselling used clothing.

Among those in attendance on Tuesday were officials from the Gwinnett Chamber, Gwinnett County government, the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

In a statement, the company said the center is an example of “a new modern warehouse model. These facilities are attracting younger local talent by creating more efficient ways to work, and facilitating a fun, enjoyable culture.”

The Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday morning will issue a report on June's job growth in metro Atlanta. The department reported last week that the state's unemployment growth had dipped to 5.1 percent while the economy added 11,400 jobs.

Warehouse, fulfillment centers and distribution jobs have been among those growing in metro Atlanta the past few years. They are not typically higher-wage jobs, although they aslo include some white collar work.

Among positions to be filled at the new ThredUP facility are those in inspection, quality assurance, inventory, and human resources. Among jobs listed online is one for a recruiter and others for the more basic "team member" that starts at $10 an hour.
