This might be a good time to fill ‘er up at the pump. Gas prices have dropped 9 cents since last week in metro Atlanta and experts expect prices will continue to fall.
It’s likely prices will reach year-ago levels if this decline continues as expected, said Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman.
Georgia’s average price of $3.54 for regular unleaded gas was down 9 cents from last week, according to AAA. Since last week Florida’s average of $3.64 fell 8 cents, while Tennessee’s average of $3.44 dropped 11 cents. The national average price of $3.68 is 11 cents less than last week, according to AAA.
“We’re back to the basic fundamentals of supply and demand moving the market,” said Brady. “Oil supplies continue to increase as demand weakens across the board. Both oil and gas prices are likely to fall this week with a weakening euro, lackluster demand, and growing supplies.”
Energy experts say they expect gas prices to continue to fall.
“Most of the country is heading appreciably lower the next few weeks,” according to Tom Kloza of the Oil Price Information Service, who said he expect retail gas to fall 5 to 15 cents a gallon each of the next three weeks to about $3.30 a gallon. Gasbuddy.com analyst Patrick DeHaan expects motorists to see $3.35 a gallon during that time.
