Five teams are competing to win contracts for the modernization of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, a $430 million project that will give the airport terminal a “new, fresh, modern look.”

The massive overhaul of the look and feel of the airport will involve two contracts — one for work in the domestic terminal and the other for work on the concourses and signs.

Winning contractors will be tasked with renovations aimed at giving the domestic terminal atrium a park-like feel. The project will also bring more light into aging concourses and add design elements similar to those in the newer international terminal, officials say.

The atrium will be remade with more light, and as a “showcase for smart and sustainable energy,” according to Miguel Southwell, Hartsfield-Jackson’s general manager.

For the work in the domestic terminal, the five teams that submitted proposals Wednesday are: a joint venture led by Dunn Aviation Group; a joint venture of Turner Construction and SG Contracting; a joint venture of New South Construction, McCarthy and Synergy Construction; a team of Holder, Moody, Bryson, Benchmark and 2MATL; and a team of Skanska USA Building and FS 360.

The Dunn Aviation group joint venture; the Turner Construction and SG Contracting joint venture; and the Skanska USA Building and FS3 360 team are also competing for the second contract to work on concourses and signs.
