The Coca-Cola Foundation has donated $2 million to support youth development programs in Atlanta.
The grant to the Atlanta Police Foundation’s Vision Safe Atlanta campaign will fund programs like the At-Promise Center. The Center serves more than 300 at-risk youths who live on the city’s Westside, providing educational and professional development opportunities.
“Where once we were losing our kids from the English Avenue and Vine City neighborhood to crime, drug abuse and violence, we’ve now – through the At Promise Youth Center – created a safe place for them to be themselves and with people who care about them,” said Coca-Cola president James Quincey.
Since 1984, the foundation has donated more than $174 million to support community initiatives in Atlanta. The amount is part of $1 billion the Georgia-based company has given worldwide to support organizations dedicated to environmental protection, women empowerment, community development and other issues.
“As the philanthropic arm of The Coca-Cola Company, The Coca-Cola Foundation is focused on giving back and making a difference in the communities where Coca-Cola operates as a business, but also where the company’s employees live and work,” said Helen smith Price, president of The Coca-Cola Foundation.
“Our goal is to give back at least 1 percent of our operating income from the prior year,” said Price.
