Digital mapping firm makes Midtown move

A digital mapping firm involved in autonomous vehicle research plans to relocate its North American headquarters from Canada to offices in Midtown Atlanta.

The move by GeoDigital will bring about 50 new high-tech jobs, the company and state economic development officials said Monday.

The company is joining a spate of recent corporate expansions in the greater Midtown area, including Worldpay US, Sage Software and the future headquarters of NCR.

A news release states the company will occupy offices in Atlantic Station, and the company’s website lists an Atlanta address at 271 17th Street.

“Given our growth and the tremendous market potential for GeoDigital’s big spatial data and analytics software, we simply got to the point where we needed greater access to high-tech talent and international travel routes. Atlanta meets both of those needs,” GeoDigital President and CEO Chris Warrington said in the release.

GeoDigital says it uses high-tech mapping to help guide self-driving vehicles under development. GeoDigital also helps utilities track their power grids for issues such as plant growth that might damage sensitive systems in a storm.

The company said it plans to have apprenticeships with Kennesaw State University and Georgia Tech.

“Georgia is a hub for headquarter relocations — especially for technology companies,” Chris Carr, the state’s economic development commissioner said in the release. “Since the beginning of our fiscal year, which concluded not even three weeks ago, we have announced 10 corporate headquarter relocations and more than 4,200 technology jobs in Georgia.”
