A carpet company that announced plans in May for two new factories in Georgia’s beleaguered carpet country expects to invest $350 million to complete one of the facilities, according to documents filed Wednesday with a state agency.

Calhoun-based Engineered Floors plans a 2 million-square-foot manufacturing center on South Dug Gap Road, which runs parallel with I-75 south of downtown Dalton. Engineered Floors has said it will hire 2,400 workers at new plants in Whitfield and Murray counties.

The metro Dalton unemployment rate was 10.7 percent in May, more than two points higher than the statewide rate.

The project is expected to generate nearly $7 million in annual local sales and property tax revenue, according to the Developments of Regional Impact filing with the state Department of Community Affairs.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported the company could get various state economic development incentives worth as much as $105.6 million over several years if all the jobs are created in both facilities.
