Athens -- If you're a Georgia Tech fan (and this is intended as a Tech-centric post), here's a stat to buoy your spirits: The Jackets enter today's tilt with the better offense, if only just. They're ranked No. 23 in the land; Georgia is tied with South Carolina at No. 25. UCLA is No. 24, not that such a rating is much consolation to Jim Mora today.
Now, in interest of full disclosure, here are two stats Tech folks won't like: Georgia's defense ranks 14th nationally; the Jackets' is 60th. Tech has proved deft at taking the ball from its opponents -- it's tied for ninth in turnover margin and 18th in turnovers gained -- but Georgia has been remarkable at keeping it. The Bulldogs are tied for second with Rice, trailing only Oregon, in turnovers lost with eight.
Put another way, Georgia has lost the ball three more times in 11 games than Pitt did on its first five possessions against Tech. Which brings us to the question of the day: If the Bulldogs don't turn it over, can Tech's defense stop them?
