The House is expected to give approval to a package of Republican budget cuts late today, as GOP lawmakers follow through on their pledge to make immediate cuts in the federal budget.
"The American citizen, whether they be Democrat or Republican knows that the federal government has gotten too large," said Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA), one of the over 80 new GOP lawmakers elected last November.
The big headline from day two of the debate was approval of a plan to cut $450 million this year - and billions in the long term - by scrapping a second engine for the Joint Strike Fighter.
It was a big turn around from last year, when the House refused to back off the second engine, which would be built in part near the district of Speaker John Boehner in Ohio.
"This amendment could directly impact 15,000 jobs in Ohio," said Rep. Steve Austria (R-OH).
But that talk of jobs by Boehner and his lieutenants was mocked by Democrats, who parroted Boehner's own quote from earlier this week about how budget cuts my mean a loss of government jobs.
"So be it," they said.
Last night's debate stretched past midnight for a second straight legislative day, setting up votes today on everything from GOP efforts to ban the spending of money to implement the Obama health law, to GOP efforts to cut arts funding and more.
"The reality of it is that the American people sent us here to get the budget and the budget deficit under control," said Rep. Sandy Adams (R-FL), one of the many Tea Party Republicans who won last November.
With the vote on the second engine and a few other amendments, the total of the GOP budget cutting plan has now edged over $61 billion.
What will make this final day of debate and votes interesting will be amendments that can be offered once the entire bill has been read, amendments that ban the spending of money on certain initiatives.
They are often very political in nature, because they go past the idea of how much will be spent on something to the issue of blocking any funds from being spent on certain items.
By my count, there are over 280 amendments which would add language, "At the end of the bill," and then touches on all kinds of different subjects.
Not only will some of these amendments be focused on the Obama health law - like blocking its implementation - but they also are likely to bring votes on across the board budget cuts, some that include money for the military and some that do not.
And then there are others, like this one by Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), that take aim at money going to outside groups like Planned Parenthood:
AMENDMENT NO. 11: At the end of the bill (before the short title), insert the following:

This bill may not going anywhere in the Senate, but it has been an interesting process to watch this week. Check back to see what the final product looks like.
