The Westlake-Langston Hughes game was suspended in the third quarter after a fight in the stands and a lightning delay would have prevented the game from being restarted until approximately 11:30 p.m., according to game officials.

With 7:31 left in the third quarter, a fight broke out in the home side of the stands. Law enforcement officials ordered the stadium cleared of all spectators, except parents. As that process was being carried out in an orderly fashion, several lightning strikes appeared in the sky. According to Georgia High School Association rules, a lightning strike causes a game to be suspended for 30 minutes. If another lightning strike occurs, the 30-minute clock starts over.

The two schools are no longer in the same region, so it will be up to school officials whether or not they decide to resume the game at some point this season. At the time of the stoppage, Langston Hughes (1-0) led Westlake (0-0), 10-9.
