Last week, the Macon County Bulldogs were the No. 4 ranked team in the state and hosting winless Perry. The Bulldogs lost 34-33. Did they get caught looking ahead? Maybe.

This week, the No. 10 Bulldogs face the No. 2 Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes on the road. Fitzgerald is 3-0 and well rested, having enjoyed a bye last week. Fitzgerald won 41-34 at Macon County last week and lead the all-time series 3-0.

Is Hapeville Charter for real? The Hornets are 3-0 thus far and flying under the radar even though they've out scored their opponents 131-24. To put that in perspective, the Hornets played the same three opponents to open last season but were 1-2.

Their secret success will over this week if they can beat No. 3 GAC in the Region 6 opener for both teams. The Spartans beat Hapeville 41-0 last season, but all indications are this year's game will be different. This is definitely a game to keep an eye on.

The remainder of the top 10 has a rather uneventful week. Aside from the aforementioned matchups, every team aside from No. 1 Benedictine plays an opponent with a losing record. The top-ranked Cadets take on Bacon County in the Region 2 opener for both teams - a game the Cadets won 47-0 last season.
