Bryan Way, who led his alma mater Warner Robins to its last state title in his first season as head coach in 2004, has retired. Way joined Warner Robins’ staff in 1984 as an assistant under Robert Davis and never coached or played at another high school.
Way’s record as a head coach was 92-48-1, including the 14-0-1 team that defeated Statesboro for the 2004 Class AAAA championship. Warner Robins was erratic in the years after but won 11 games in 2011 and 2013. The Demons were 7-4 in 2015.
Way told the Macon Telegraph that he made the decision to retire over Christmas break but kept it to himself until after the football banquet.
“I didn’t want anybody to do or say anything at the banquet for me or on behalf of me, not that anybody would have wanted to,’’ Way said. ‘’That’s about the kids; it ain’t about me.”
