Sequoyah, St. Pius X, East Coweta, Walton and South Forsyth competed in the Southern Invitational Volleyball Tournament this weekend with top teams from Tennessee and South Carolina.

Wando (S.C.) won the tournament with a 25-20, 25-17 sweep over Webb (Tenn.) Walton went 2-0 in the silver division and Sequoyah went 1-1. South Forsyth grabbed one victory before falling out of the Bronze Divison and St. Pius X and East Coweta dropped both games in the Championship Division.

Walton has the weekend off after three busy weekends in a row. The Raiders were in Lexington Kentucky for a five-match weekend before playing in the All City Classic two weeks ago and Southern Invitational this past Saturday. The Raiders finish the regular season with a tri-match at Lassiter with the host Trojans and Wheeler on Tuesday.

East Coweta has another busy weekend and will be one of 12 teams highlighting the Serve for the Cure pool this weekend. The two day tournament will be played at Class AAA No. 1 Blessed Trinity and will feature some of the top teams in the state. Notre Dame, Tenn. and Blythewood, S.C. are the lone out-of-state schools. Cambridge, Columbus, McIntosh, Chattahoochee, Landmark Christian, Milton, North Oconee and Westminster will represent Georgia.

Twelve matches will be played on Friday and a total of 18 matches are scheduled for Saturday before the bracket is set. The tournament action starts at 3:30 pm and the championship match is tentatively scheduled for a 6:30 pm start.

Postseason play approaches and the playoffs will be here in less two weeks. The six 2014 state champions will be crowned in less than a month. 32 teams from each classification will make the playoffs and when each bracket reaches the quarterfinals, the teams are given a seed 1-8 and set accordingly into the quarterfinals championship bracket. The higher seed hosts once the seeds are assigned and the state championships will all be on the same Saturday this year. Last season was split between Friday and Saturday at Marietta, but this year will use two locations to fit the action into one day. Westminster will host the Class A-AAA championships and Marietta will host the Class AAAA-AAAAAA on Saturday.
