Mt. Paran Christian is now No. 1 in the AJC Top 10 and in the updated Georgia High School Association/MaxPreps Power Rating private poll, overtaking Prince Avenue Christian, while Marion County jumped Turner County and Charlton County to claim the top spot in the public school ratings. Several games Friday, the final week of the reglar season, will have huge impacts on the final ratings next week. Remember region champions will be seeded first after the final ratings are posted.

Class A Private

Worst Record In:  No. 15 Mt. Pisgah Christian, No. 16 First Presbyterian (5-4)

Best Record Out: No. 17 Athens Christian, No. 18 Fellowship Christian (5-4)

First Team Out:   No. 17 Athens Christian

Who Dropped Out: No. 17 Athens Christian

Who Jumped In: No. 16 First Presbyterian

Noteworthy

-- A win for No. 1 Mt. Paran in the region championship game Friday at No. 5 Pinecrest would seal the No. 1 spot for the Eagles. However, a loss could drop them down as low as the No. 5 seed, as it is possible that champions from Regions 3 (possibly No. 7 Savannah Christian), 5 (No. 4 Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy), 7 (No. 3 Aquinas or No. 9 Stratford Academy) and 6 – which would be Pinecrest – would be ranked ahead of them.

-- An upset win for No. 9 Stratford Academy in the Region 7 title game against Aquinas (8-1) in Macon would mean the difference between the Eagles going on the road for their first round playoff game and them hosting in the first round.

-- No. 17 Athens Christian is the only team on the outside looking in with a shot at cracking the top16 should a team in front of them stumble on Friday.  Athens Christian will visit No. 14 Hebron Christian (6-3). No. 16 First Presbyterian faces four-win Hancock Central (4-5), while No. 15 Mt. Pisgah will play No. 11 Christian Heritage (5-4) of Dalton.

Class A Public

Worst Record In:  No. 16 Twiggs County (4-5)

Best Record Out: No.17 Treutlen, No. 18 Miller County (5-4)

 First Team Out:    None

Who Dropped Out:  None

Who Jumped In: None

Noteworthy

-- Every team in the top 16 remained there. The biggest change was No. 16 Twiggs County nearly falling out of the ratings from No. 12 last week, after a 52-38 loss to First Presbyterian.

-- No. 16 Twiggs County is in a very precarious spot. The Cobras end the season at home in Jeffersonville against No. 5 Lincoln County (8-1), which will be looking to bounce back from last week’s 24-3 loss to Aquinas (8-1).

-- Region 1 is a mess with four teams – No. 14 Randolph-Clay, No. 18 Miller County, No. 20 Terrell County and No. 22 Mitchell County – tied for first place, each with a 1-1 record against the other. Things should get a little clearer after Friday, as all four face off against each other: Miller County at Terrell County and Mitchell County at Randolph-Clay.
