Ola's Perkins drives in 6 vs. Dutchtown
Ola catcher Carter Perkins is on a 12-for-15 stretch with 12 RBI. Perkins, who has signed with South Alabama, was 4-for-4 with six RBI in a 17-1 victory over Dutchtown on Wednesday. He’s hitting .525 on the season with 32 hits and 28 RBI. Ola is averaging 9.8 runs per game. Also putting up strong numbers are Jake Hayes (.500, 25 runs scored) and Joseph Rushin (.422). Ola is 17-3 overall, 6-2 in Region 4-AAAAAA.
Brookwood bounces back after mediocre season
State power Brookwood, though unranked, appears to be back after a 14-14 season in 2014. The Broncos are 13-3 overall, 6-1 in Region 8-AAAAAA, heading into their game Monday against No. 1-ranked Parkview. Brookwood beat Parkview 3-2 on March 17. The 2015 Broncos are a senior-dominated team. The starting rotation of Parker Farschman (5-1, 0.47), Matthew Kopec (4-0 3.94) and Nick Marquez (4-0, 1.75) comprises all seniors. Leading hitters Mason Leblanc (.381, 10 extra-base hits), Brock Baughcum (.311) and Jonathan White (.326, 21 RBI) also are seniors. There is one freshman making noise. Will Banfield is batting .308 with five doubles.
No. 1 Wesleyan beats No. 2 GAC
The top two teams in Class AA met Thursday, and No. 1 Wesleyan defeated No. 2 Greater Atlanta Christian 13-7. Wesleyan center fielder Jahmai Jones hit two home runs, and Andrew Sauer had a double and a homer. The race in Region 6-AA is tight. Third-ranked Lovett, which beat Wesleyan earlier this week, is 12-3 overall, 5-1 in the region, with a loss to GAC. Wesleyan is 14-3, 5-1. GAC is 13-3, 3-1.
Phillips hits three HR for Mount Paran
Mount Paran Christian’s Isaac Phillips hit three home runs, one a grand slam, in a 17-1 victory over Chattooga on Thursday. Phillips pitched five innings and was the winning pitcher. For the season, Phillips has six home runs and is hitting .613 (19-for-31) despite missing four games. Mount Paran’s team hits with power. Reed Massey and Matthew Norton have four home runs on the season, and Taylor Trammell has three. Ranked No. 3 in Class A, Mount Paran is 10-3 overall, 6-2 in Region 6-A, and is the only team with a victory over defending Class A private-school champion King’s Ridge.

Dixon (5-0) throws no-hitter vs. Alpharetta
North Forsyth pitcher Caleb Dixon (left) pitched a no-hitter on Monday against Alpharetta in a 1-0 victory. Dixon struck out seven in the seven-inning game. For the season, Dixon is 5-0 with a 0.62 ERA. He’s allowed only 11 hits. Dixon has signed with Baton Rouge Community College. North Forsyth is 10-6-1 overall, 8-3 in Region 6-AAAAAA, after a tough 3-2 loss Wednesday to defending state champion Lambert.
Allatoona continues sports success
Allatoona, the Region 5-AAAAA champion in football and boys basketball, is trying to nail own a trifecta that includes the baseball title. The fifth-ranked Buccaneers are 15-2 overall, 10-1 in region play, leading the pack. Allatoona has hit only four home runs but is hitting .339 as a team with sophomore Kyle Jacobsen (.460), junior Jordyn Lewis (.444) and senior Justin Evans (.400) all hitting .400 or better. Jacobsen is also 3-0 with an 0.88 ERA as a pitcher. Allatoona made the football state semifinals and boys basketball final in AAAAA.
Strike three: Treutlen pitchers pile up K’s
Treutlen, one of the top contenders in the Class A public division, must be running out of K’s to post at their games. Treutlen pitchers have fanned 142 batters in 97 innings. Tristan Cone (3-1, 0.42) has 55 strikeouts in 33 innings. Brad Cammack (4-0, 1.14) has 51 in 30 2/3. Zach Hughes (5-0, 0.47) has 35 in 29 2/3. Cammack (.444, nine doubles) is the team’s leading hitter. He has signed with Darton State College in Albany. Treutlen is 13-2 overall, 9-0 in Region 3-A. Treutlen advanced to the Class A public semifinals last season.
Tucker pair shows HR power
Tucker catcher Booth Vogel hit two home runs in a 10-5 victory over Rockdale County this week. Vogel has five home runs on the season and is hitting .348. Tucker is 11-5 overall, 7-1 in Region 2-AAAAAA, trailing Lakeside (15-3, 8-1) in the region race. Senior Jake Lovvorn leads Tucker in home runs with six (he also homered against Rockdale) and in batting average at .444 (20-for-45). Lovvorn, a left-hander who is 6 feet, 220 inches, is 2-1 as a pitcher with a 1.87 ERA. Vogel also pitches He’s 1-2 with a 3.13 ERA.
