Miller Grove’s boys basketball team, the Georgia Class AAAAA champion, advanced Thursday in the Dick’s Sporting Goods High School Nationals in New York with a 67-65 victory over Findlay Prep of Las Vegas.

Aaron Augustin (see video below) broke a 65-65 tie with a floater in the lane with 12 seconds left. Augustin, an all-state guard, scored only four points but hit the game’s most important basket as the shot clock was winding down. He also had five rebounds and three steals.

Miller Grove was led by McDonald’s All-American guard Alterique Gilbert, who scored 20 points and had four assists. Raylon Richardson had 12 points. Colin Young scored 10.

Findlay Prep is a three-time former champion of the New York event (2009, 2010, 2012) and is 280-18 over the past 10 seasons with 10 graduates in the NBA.

Miller Grove next plays Oak Hill Academy of Virginia, the No. 2 seed and also the No. 2-ranked team nationally by MaxPreps. Miller Grove is the only public school in the semifinals. (See tournament bracket.)

The girls’ four-team draw begins on Friday. St. Francis, Georgia’s Class A private-school champion, plays No. 1-seeded Riverdale Baptist.
