Mays quarterback B.J. Phillips scored four touchdowns as the No. 5 Raiders blanked visiting Creekview 31-0 Friday night in a Class AAAAA first-round matchup in Atlanta.

He threw for 45 yards on the opening drive, including an 18-yard touchdown pass to Randrecous Davis with 7:53 to play in the first quarter. He completed four more passes for 85 yards on the second drive and needed a 19-yard catch on fourth down from Davis to put the ball at the Creekview 1. Phillips scored on a 1-yard plunge two plays later, with 2:03 to play in the first quarter.

The junior completed his first 10 pass attempts for 148 yards before a miss with eight minutes to play in the second quarter. The offense bogged down in the second quarter, turning the ball over on downs twice inside Creekview territory, but Phillips regrouped for two more touchdowns after halftime on the way to finishing 26-of-35 passing for 350 yards.

“He’s been doing an outstanding job for us all year. He played his butt off,” Mays coach Corey Jarvis said. “For the most part our offense clicked on all cylinders tonight.”

Junior Santonio Mapp collected 175 all-purpose yards - 29 yards passing, 54 yards rushing on six carries and 92 yards receiving on five receptions. Junior receiver Corey Reed caught eight passes for 93 yards and a third-quarter touchdown from Phillips.

Mays fell yards short of a region title and its first undefeated regular season since 2003 in a 10-9 loss to Stephenson last week at a waterlogged Lakewood Stadium. Two of three offensive lineman out for last week’s game returned tonight and allowed one sack.

Creekview quarterback Kyle Wilkie finished the game 16-of-34 passing for 162 yards and two interceptions. Junior receiver Brian Davis caught nine passes for 83 yards.

Creekview (7-4) won six of its last seven games to reach the playoffs as the third seed from Region 7-AAAAA. The Grizzlies shut out Cambridge last week in a region play-in game to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

Mays (10-1) will play the South Effingham/Houston County winner next week.
