The Maxwell Ratings will rank Georgia's 417 teams throughout the 2015 season. The ratings are based entirely on historical performance and on field results and do not consider personnel changes on the roster or coaching staffs.
Interesting results from this past week:
- Grayson and Colquitt County continue their see-saw battle over the top spot in AAAAAA and the state overall. Meanwhile Archer, Mill Creek, and Roswell all continue to be strong contenders while Peachtree Ridge, McEachern, and Camden County all maintain their legitimate dark horse status. However, at least two of the above will fall this weekend as Archer takes on McEachern and Roswell hosts Camden County in contests that are coming a round too early for this year's playoffs.
- Significant underdog Rome shocked Stephenson 7-6 to knock the Jaguars out of the playoffs and the top spot in AAAAA and also take more than a little luster off previously number two Mays. Mays has only lost once, 10-9 to Stephenson to close the regular season. Stockbridge takes over AAAAA while Northgate is close behind. Stockbridge topped Northgate 20-2 in in a battle of two highly rated and undefeated teams also in the last week of the regular season.
Maxwell GHSA Football Ratings
As this season's games are played, the Maxwell Ratings will be based on a modified logistic regression of the current football season's results in combination with each team's historical performance. More recent games and games against similarly rated opponents carry more weight and the weight of each team's historical performance diminishes as the team's season progresses.
The current total weight of all team's historical performance is 0.12%.
For the current season, the ratings accurately account for the winner of 1,963 of 2,136 total games including 2 tie(s) (91.95%) and accurately reflect approximately 68.3% of all game margins within 13.09 points.
The ratings are scaled so that 100.00 is the rating required to win 91.5% of all games in an infinite round robin tournament against all teams in the highest classification. The schedule strength is the rating required to win 50% of all games in an infinite round robin tournament against a particular team's opponents.
