Buford will compete for its fourth straight gymnastics state title Friday night at Ola High School. The gym opens at 4 p.m. for warm-ups and bar settings and the competition starts at 7 p.m. The Wolves face a talented field of contenders and there were plenty of fireworks in last week’s prelims as Forsyth County proved to be a hotbed of talent. Lambert and West Forsyth finished first and second, respectively, out of 17 teams at the GHSA prelims, ahead of third-place Buford. West Forsyth sophomore Sienna Schreiber stuck a perfect 10 on the beam, while the Longhorns’ depth rewarded Lambert with 112.575 points. While Schrieber is the front-runner for the individual title on the beam, Lambert has three gymnasts that qualified for the beam, making it a crucial event for their title hopes.
The GHSA Riflery State Championship presented by Georgia Army Nation Guard takes place this Saturday, April 22nd at the Pool International Shooting Complex on Ft. Benning. Competition begins at 10:45 a.m. and admission is free.
The 15 winning teams from the GHSA Semifinal competitions, plus two invitational teams, will compete for the state team championship. The eight individual athletes that fire the highest scores will progress to the individual Finals, which will determine the individual championship standings but have no effect on the team event. Both individual and team winners will be scored on prone, standing and kneeling positions. Defending state champions East Coweta will be looking to retain their title after finishing a perfect 15-0 in the GHSA Area 5 regular season.
