Lithonia boys enjoy big week: No. 4 Lithonia took control of rugged Region 6-AAAA last week with a pair of impressive wins over contenders No. 2 Grady and No. 3 St. Pius. The Bulldogs (18-4, 15-1 Region 6-AAAA) split the regular-season series with Grady and swept St. Pius. Lithonia will be a solid favorite in its two remaining games: at Cross Keyes (Tuesday) and at Stone Mountain (Friday). The Bulldogs' senior backcourt of Rodney Chatman and Tyheem Freeman has been the catalyst for Lithonia. The duo combined for 40 of the team's 56 points in the win over St. Pius on Friday. The Region 6-AAAA tournament tips off Feb. 8.

Surging St. Pius girls face tough final week: St. Pius, a perennial power, got off to a rough start to the season. But the Golden Lions (14-7, 11-4 Region 6-AAAA) seem to have found some rhythm heading into the final week of region play. St. Puis has won five of six to move into third position in the region, behind first-place Marist and second-place Redan. Holding onto that third position could be tough, though. Coach Kyle Snipes' Golden Lions are at Redan on Tuesday and at Marist on Friday.
