Signature win for Landmark
In what head coach Wayne Brantley said was one of the best wins in the illustrious history of the Landmark Christian School program, the War Eagles, ranked No. 3 (Private), scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to stun No. 2 Wesleyan, 21-17, ruining the Wolves’ homecoming weekend. And Landmark made its comeback running right at Wesleyan in the wildcat formation, featuring freshman Dalton Colburn and senior Lofton Tidwell. The win most likely sets up the third Region 5 match-up between top five teams. In two weeks, No. 3 (Private) Landmark will host No. 1 Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy. Back on Sept. 30, No. 1 ELCA edged then-No. 2 Wesleyan, 34-30.
Fellowship keeps winning
The Paladins won … again. No. 6 (Private) Fellowship Christian, perhaps the quietest still-undefeated team in the state, moved to 8-0 with a 35-21 win over Mt. Pisgah. Fellowship trailed 14-7 at the half but scored the next four touchdowns to take control of the game. Merrick Haigler scored two touchdowns in the third quarter on runs of seven and 51 yards, QB Jack Hardin scored on a 1-yard run early in the fourth quarter and Andrew Johnson scored the second of this two touchdowns on the night on a (6 and 10 yards) to give the Paladins a 35-14 lead before Mt. Pisgah scored again. Fellowship appears headed toward a showdown of unbeaten teams with Mt. Zion-Carroll in the Region 6 title game on Nov. 4.
Mt. Zion still undefeated
The Eagles, ranked No. 5 (Public) held off Trion, 31-24, to move to 8-0, 5-0 in sub Region 6A. Junior CJ Ackles led the way by returning a kickoff for a touchdown, catching a 55-yard pass for another touchdown and grabbing two interceptions on defense. The Eagles are 8-0 for the first time in school history and are in search of their first region title since 1996.
