The Lambert boys haven’t lost a tournament this spring. Winning the Boys High School Invitational at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Monday may elevate them to another level.
The Longhorns won the state’s premier high school tournament for the second straight year against a field that boasted four state champions.
Lambert was led by Brett Barron, who shot a 2-under 70 on his home course. Barron tied for first place with N.C. State signee Christian Salzer of Wilson Hall of Sumter, S.C., but lost in a one-hole playoff when Salzer made a birdie on the historic 18th hole of the Highlands Course.
Barron, who has signed with Georgia Southern, Grant Sutliff (73) and Spencer Ball (80) had their scores count for a 223 total. Sutliff won third place among individuals in a scorecard playoff.
That was enough for a five-shot win over Marist, who got a 74 from Will Chandler, a 76 from Owen Burden and 78s from Jack Warren and Harry White.
Spencer Ralston of Gainesville, Alexander De Rosa of Lovett and Ethan Mangum of Mount Vernon each shot 73
Greater Atlanta Christian senior Ben Shipp, who was medalist at the event in 2014, shot a 75, as did Carter Pendley of Dalton, Kiely Morrison of Blessed Trinity, Mitchell Kahlert of Woodward Academy, Keller Harper of Westminster and Walker Jones of Wilson Hall.
Other team scores: Wilson Hall 228, Woodward Academy 231, Greater Atlanta Christian 234, Mill Creek 235, Blessed Trinity 235, Dalton 235, Alpharetta 236, Cambridge 238, Gainesville 239, Lovett 242, Westminster 243, Harrison 244, Brookstone 253, Mount Vernon 259, Wesleyan 260, North Atlanta 265.

Thompson shot a 2-over 74 to win tournament, beating Woo Wade of Marist and Lauren Lightfritz of Lambert by one shot. Louis Yu shot 76 to finish solo fourth.
“I’m playing in the Drive, Chip and Putt at Augusta National this weekend, so I was really looking for a win,” she said. “I made a lot of good putts out there today.”
