Lacrosse playoffs: Round 1 highlights – Wednesday
With the completion of Tuesday's matches, round 1 the lacrosse state tournaments is complete. Below are some highlights from Tuesday, along with links to each updated playoff bracket and AJC predictions.
AAAAAA Boys
- No. 4-ranked Pope edged No. 9 Mill Creek 11-10. Pope, a No. 3 seed from Area 2, will play top-ranked Lambert in round 2. Lambert beat Hillgrove 15-0. Lambert was led by Conrad McEvoy (three goals), Villanova commit Eric Overbay (three goals, two assists), and Jake Alesia (tow goals). Robert Morris commit Trey Arnold was 8 for 8 in faceoffs.
- No. 2 North Gwinnett topped No. 10 Walton 16-11. North Gwinnett - the No. 1 seed from Area 4 - advances to play No. 5 Johns Creek, which beat Harrison 15-7.
- No. 7 Etowah beat Grayson 9-5, with Nick Losurdo leading the way with three goals. Nolan Hayes had 17 saves.
- No. 6 Centennial beat Kennesaw Mountain 17-3 led by sophomore Nicky Solomon's five goals and five assists. Freshman Ryan Siracusa added two goals and two assists, while Matt Chase, Luke Sadd and Ben Shealy added two goals. Eric Cecere had 10 saves.
A-AAAAA Girls
- Top-ranked Blessed Trinity defeated Lovett 22-9, led by Regan McGovern's seven goals. Kaley Attaway and Payton Fadem added four goals apiece and Mary Markwordt scored three times.
- No. 7 Sprayberry edged No. 8 St. Pius 15-12 and will take on No. 3 Cambridge in the second round. Cambridge beat McIntosh 18-4. Maddie McGhee scored six goals for Sprayberry, followed by Kelsey Dover (four goals) and Amanda Geiger (three goals).
- No. 6 Wesleyan beat Woodward 18-7, led by Quinn Kaloper (five goals) and Lindsey Hayes (four). Sydney Weissman added three goals, eight draw controls and forced six turnovers, while Alyssa Bedard had 14 saves.
