Day 1 of the GHSA Girls State Track Championships opened up in Albany on Thursday. Preliminary races for the upcoming championship races made up the bulk of the event while a few title races and field events were held as well.

Field event championships for Class AAAAA, AAA and AA were held today as well as the 1600 Meter Run finals for Class A-Private, A-Public, AAAA and AAAAAA while the 3200 Meter Run championships for AA, AAA and AAAAA took place in the last event of the night.

Timberly Molden took home first-place in the Class AAAAA Discus Throw with a heave of 132-11, narrowly edging Union Grove’s Megan Douglas (132-06). In Class AAA, Amani Taylor cruised to the gold medal with a 123-09 toss beating Gordon Central’s Megan Hudson by over 12 feet. Class AA saw Gordon Lee’s Madelyn Lee net the Trojans 10 points with her 132-05 throw.

In the shot put, Molden struck gold again for Stephenson with a 43-08.50 toss with Megan Douglas scoring eight more points for Union Grove in second-place. Camilla Sims lifted Jackson-Atlanta to 10 points with her championship throw of 39-11.00. Madelyn Lee took home her second first-place medal with her 44-09.00 hurl for Gordon Lee in the Class AA Shot Put finals.

Creekview’s Zion Lewis won the Triple Jump in Class AAAAA with her 40-02.50 mark. Zoe Jordan helped Westside-Macon win AAA with her 37-11.25 while in AA, Nicole Teague scored 10 points for Lovett with a 39-08.50 in the finals.

Bria Dean easily won in the Class AAAAA Long Jump with her 19-10.25 showing for North Springs. Butler’s Tyreon Coleman slipped past Shatrice Dixon for the championship in AAA with an 18-02.00 and in AA nobody could match Taylor DeLoach (St. Vincent’s) 20-05.25 leap.

The High Jump saw Natosha Jordan (5-08), Mia McKensey (5-04) and Morgan Carelock (5-04) all claim victory for Richmond Academy, West Hall and Jeff Davis, respectively.

Starr’s Mill (Abigail Dickinson, 11-00), Westminster (Claire Cotton, 9-06.00) and Bremen (Kaylee Riley, 11-04.00) all picked up first-place finishes in the Pole Vault.

Athens Academy’s Anna Marian Block broke her own state record she set last year in the 1600 Meter Run posting a time of 4:51.28 in the Class A-Private finals. Commerce took first in Class A-Public with Kate Massey’s 5:35.64 performance and Josie Wirtz led Marist to the title with a 5:07.17 mark. In AAAAAA, Riley Burr (4:48.80) raced past the field to get Milton 10 points.
