Jefferson, GA- Day 2 of the GHSA Boys State Track Meet crowned individual state champions for the 3200 meter run, while the preliminary runs were completed for eight more events; (4x100 meter relay, 400 meter dash, 110 meter high hurdles, 800 meter run, 200 meter dash, 300 meter hurdles and 4x400 meter relay.
The Class AAAAAA 3200 meter run ended Day 2 in dramatic fashion. Lakeside-DeKalb’s Andrew Kent took first-place with a 9:08.45, while Brookwood’s Zach Israel crossed in 9:08.48. Lambert’s Jonathan Schwind clocked a 9:09.53 for third. 9:23.00. Kent’s teammate David Stockwell finished fifth with a 9:17.40.
Archer entered Day 2 with a Class AAAAAA best 27 points, but the 14 points Lakeside-DeKalb earned with two top 5 finishers gives the Vikings a first-place 28 points entering the final day of action.
In Class AAAAA, Flowery Branch’s Jake Shewbert ran the fastest 3200 with a 9:02.94. Sam Bowie (LaGrange) earned a second-place finish after edging Alexander’s Braeden Collins 9:22.25 to 9:22.43. Shewbert’s first-place finish closed Flowery Branch’s (31.50) gap entering Day 3. Starr’s Mill leads the field with 34 points after eight events.
Marist earned 18 points with a one-two finish in Class AAAA. Frank Pittman paced the field with a 9:23.87, while Leif Andersen clocked a 9:26.11 for second. Marist leads Eastside 34-27 entering Saturday.
Chandler Kennedy and Chase Kennedy finished fourth and second in the 1600 meter yesterday, but dominated the 3200 meter run with a one-two finish in Class AAA.
Chase posted a 9:17.09, while Chandler clocked a 9:35.76. Those 18 points equate more than half of the 33 points East Jackson leads with entering the final day of action.
Carl Ellis Corley scored Bleckley County a huge win in the 3200 meter run with a 9:44.02. The 10 points pushed Bleckley County to a total of 34 after eight events, which is three points ahead of second-place Early County.
North Cobb Christian’s Sam Shaylor blazed a 9:39.34 for the Class A-Private title. Hawkinsville’s Adan Martinez placed first in Class A-Public with a 10:48.56 finish. After eight events, Commerce is dominating Class A-Public with 54 combined points to Mt. Zion-Carroll’s second-place 37. Class A-Private Landmark Christian (54) holds the edge on First Presbyterian Day (28) for the highest score entering Saturday.
