St. Francis’ girls basketball team, the Class A private-school champion in Georgia, will be playing in the Dick’s Sporting Goods High School National April 1-2 in New York.

St. Francis will open against Riverdale Baptist of Maryland in the four-team event that also includes Seton Catholic of Arizona and Ribault of Florida. The semifinals will be televised on ESPNU, and the final – at Madison Square Garden - will be on ESPN 2.

Miller’s Grove’s boys also have accepted an invitation to the event. Wheeler’s boys played in 2015 after getting the GHSA to change a bylaw that previously prevented Georgia teams in any sport to compete after their Georgia seasons were finished.

St. Francis will be the first girls team to play in it. The team finished 31-1 and is ranked No. 8 nationally by MaxPreps.

St. Francis’ five leading scorers were underclassmen led by Jala Jordan (13.9 points per game). Maya Dodson (12.9) and Kasiyahna Kuskituah (10.7 ppg, 8.0 rebounds) also are prominent players
