GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We’ll report from a different head coach each day.

Tony Welch, Savannah

1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "The 1978 Class AA South Georgia championship game. We [Claxton] beat Mitchell County High School to go on to the AA state championship game vs. East Rome. I had two interceptions and eight tackles as a freshman. I was 14 years old. The last interception came with about five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Mitchell County had just broken Lincoln County's long winning streak. [Claxton won 19-14. The Tigers lost to East Rome 25-9 in the final and finished 14-1.]

2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "I would love for my son to play for me because I know how far to push him, and I'm not going to teach him any bad habits. By the way, he did play for me for four years and went on to play college football."

3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto? "I hate to see kids waste God-given talent, and my motto is 'No Excuses, No Explanation.'"

4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "I would love for our players to be able to block below the waist outside of the tackle box. College and the NFL allow it. We are training our athletes for the next level, so adopt the rule."
