Former Griffin and Drew coach Jarrett Laws will replace the retiring Mike Earwood as head football coach at Our Lady of Mercy, Laws confirmed Tuesday to AJC.com.

‘’I tend to think that all things happen for a reason and God makes no mistakes,’’ said Laws, who was let go at Griffin, which he once called a dream job, after only two seasons. “I’m excited to broaden my horizons with an emerging program that’s been given such a strong foundation with Coach Earwood.’’

Laws had led Mount Zion of Jonesboro to the quarterfinals in 2008 before starting the program at Drew in 2009. Laws’ Griffin teams went 11-1 and 6-5. Griffin since has hired Antonio Andrews, an alumnus.

Our Lady was 34-28 in six seasons under Earwood, who finished with 216 career victories. The team was 4-6 in 2015.

‘’I’m thankful I got the opportunity from the administration at OLOM to go forward with the beliefs and ideals that I truly believe in, which is coaching good football but developing better people,’’ Laws said.
