Christian Hunnicutt, the Grayson head football coach who resigned last week after two seasons and a 20-5 record, has landed at Villa Rica in west Georgia.

Hunnicutt was approved as the Wildcats’ new head coach on Monday at the Carroll County Board of Education meeting.

Hunnicutt led Grayson to the Class AAAAAAA quarterfinals and a 10-3 record in 2018. Prior to joining Grayson in 2017, he had been head coach at East Jackson for one season, his first head-coaching position. That team finished 4-6, the best mark for the school in seven seasons.

Hunnicutt had made his name as a top assistant at state-power Buford (1997-2011), Peach County (2012) and Lowndes (2013-14).

Villa Rica was 5-5 the past two seasons under Rico Zackery, who resigned to take a job on the staff of Kennesaw State.

The Wildcats play in 7-AAAAA, a region with perennial powers Rome, Kell and Carrollton. Villa Rica hasn’t reached the playoffs with a winning record since 2008 but returns four-star running back Mecose Todd.
